Hemp and Cashew Protein Powders: How to Use Them

Both of these protein powders are made from just one ingredient and are made by pressing out the oil from the nuts or seeds, then grinding what is left into a fine powder.

Organic Hemp Seed Protein Powder

Hemp protein is made from organic hemp seeds grown in Europe, with the oils carefully separated from the seeds. It has a nutty, earthy flavour. It contains 50g of protein and 15.5g of fibre per 100g, and all nine essential amino acids. Add it to yoghurt, smoothies, soups, protein shakes and porridge, or use it as a partial substitute for flour. Our top tip: it is made for smoothies.

Organic Cashew Nut Protein Powder

Cashew protein is cold-pressed to remove the oil, then stone-ground at low temperatures. It has a delicious, mild nutty flavour and contains 35.3g of protein per 100g. It works well in protein shakes, pancakes, bread and muffins.

Which one when?

  • Smoothies and shakes: either one. Hemp is earthier; cashew is milder and creamier.
  • Baking: cashew in muffins and bread, hemp swapped in for a little of the flour.
  • Savoury: hemp stirred into soups.

Try both in our hemp and cashew protein pancakes.
